MCS is looking for a Commercial Business Partner to join its Peterborough offices, based in Glinton. In this role you would have a critical role within the business ensuring that all departments work within agreed commercial principles. The successful candidate will work closely with the business development team in preparing tenders, reviewing and negotiating customer price increases, overseeing the procurement function and supporting the project and service delivery teams with commercial analysis.

General commercial activities:
- Business partnering with operational teams, providing sound and cost-effective advice, with a collaborative approach to achieve company targets and cost saving efficiencies.
- Work with the CFO to provide analytical support to understand and improve the financial performance, identifying areas of improvement, from both a revenue, margin and efficiency viewpoint.
- Advise stakeholders on KPI’s and performance to enable delivery of plan and to review and challenge efficiency and drive margin improvement.
- Periodically review customer contracts with account managers and negotiate price increases
- Identify, analyse and develop responses to commercial risks
- Provide advice on contractual claims and disputes
- Advise on a procurement strategy
- Maintain commercial relationships with key supply partners
- Having a Health and Safety mindset, looking at possible risks associated with the role and reporting any issues promptly to support the ongoing safety of self and others
Specific project work and delivery
- Work closely with the project teams to ensure profitability, forecasting and margin is achievable and realistic within project related activity
- Assist in establishing a customer’s requirements and undertake feasibility studies to ensure their proposals meet their requirements
- Prepare and analyse project costings for tenders
- Negotiate contracts and work schedules
- Perform risk, value management and cost control during the project
- Prepare valuations, agree with the customer, oversee billing and supplier payments and ensure tight control on cash flow

Detailed knowledge of past and current building and construction technology, processes, materials, business and legal matters.
Education/ Experience:
- Proven experience in a quantity surveyor role ideally within the Electrical & Fire industry
- RICS qualification desirable but not essential
- JCT exposure
- NEC 3/4 experience
- Experience of multi-disciplinary line management and matrix working highly desirable
